For the first time this season, Cleveland made significant moves during the mid-season trade period in hopes of converting their impressive record into a deeper playoff run.
The addition of Hunter brings valuable experience despite his limited postseason appearances (only 16 games). His "3D+" skill set—three-point shooting and defense—is particularly suited for the rigors of playoff basketball. As a strong individual defender, he offers more shot creation compared to other wing players alongside the Cavaliers' four All-Stars.
This season marks Hunter's best performance yet with an average of 19.0 points per game—a notable increase from his previous career high by 3.4 points. He has evolved into a more aggressive three-point shooter, boosting his attempts to an average of 6.7 shots per game at a commendable rate of 39% accuracy.
The shift towards taking higher-value three-pointers reflects changes in his shooting choices; last season, he took nearly as many two-pointers outside the paint as threes (212 vs.286), whereas this year those numbers skew heavily toward threes (247) over two-pointers (101).
